
On Wednesday 13th August, 2014 IBUTTI hosted a training workshop on commercial fish farming skills and techniques, for members of the African Women in Agribusiness Network (AWAN).
The workshop was held at the University of Dar es Salaam's new CASS venue, and was attended by 29 women who aspires to invest in fish farming business. Three of the participants already had started fish-farming even before they attended the workshop.
The facilitator from AWAN-Uganda Chapter, Elina. inspired the participants with the modern fish farming techniques, some which even does not require the farmer to dig ponds, and it is possible to conduct fish farming within a fence or garden of a normal residential house.
The workshop was followed by a field visit on Friday 15th July, 2014, to a fish farm owned by Faith Aqua Culture, at Lumumba-Kibaha, Coast Region. Faith Aqua Culture conduct fish farming for both Tilapia and Catfish. They also and produce and sell fingerings (the just hatched little fish) to other fish farmers.
