From October, 2014 IBUTTI will open market information centers (MICs) in districts that are large producers of food crops, are therefore main sourcing destinations of food sold in Dar es Salaam and other other large cities and towns in Tanzania.
MICs are aimed at updating farmers with current information about markets for their produces, including current prices, demand level as well as the farming best practices. The MICs will enable farmers to follow-up closely the market trends for their produces in the major markets, hence providing them with good and reliable base when setting prices for their produces.
The MICs will play an important role to reduce poverty in food-growing districts, while improving competitiveness and productivity. The MICs will provide space within the office premises where farmers can meet and discuss deals with buyers, while equipped with enough updated market information.
Through these MICs IBUTTI will link farmers directly with buyers, and therefore slowly eliminating the exploitative role of the middlemen.
