On Monday 1st September, 2014, participants of Export Readiness Training For Youth (ERTY) will meet with facilitators from IBUTTI as part of the final phase of the ERTY.
ERTY is a joint program run in a collaboration between IBUTTI and Agri-Hub Tanzania. The main aim of the ERTY is to provide entrepreneurship and business management training to six youth who aspire to invest in agribusinesses, who are targeting regional and global markets.
The Tanzania Agri-Hub is part of the Agri-ProFocus partnership; an initiative originating from the Netherlands that creates opportunities for multi-stakeholder action and learning for the enhancement of farmer entrepreneurship. The partnership currently consists of 35 member organisations and is operational in 12 countries in Africa, and in Indonesia.
The ERTY program started on 2nd December, 2013, and will end on 12th September, 2014. The six youth who have undergone training are then expected to pass the knowledge to hundreds of fellow youth through seminars and workshops which will be organised by IBUTTI in different parts of Tanzania.
Most of the six youth attending the ERTY are already actively engaged in agribusinesses. At the beginning they are initially targeting local markets, but gradually they be assisted to access regional and later global markets, by applying skills they have acquired through the ERTY.
Tumaini Ngumuo is one of success stories among participants of the ERTY. Tumaini is currently working on his farm in Dodoma where he is cultivating onions, and in October, 2014 he is expecting to harvest 7 tons (about 70 sacks of 100Kg each) of onions.
Assume by October the price of onions will go back to the price levels that were experienced back in March to April, 2014, of TZS 150,000 per sack, we leave it to you to calculate how much Tumaini is expecting to earn in the coming two months.
Wow! What a commendable effort by this determined and very courageous young man!
