Project

How come Tanzania and other African countries have such low export rates in comparison with Europe? Besides climate, culture, technology and product sustainability there is also a reason as inadequate international business skills. Unawareness of existing export promotion programs, no access to finance and imperfect foreign market information. Those are the main challenges that Tanzania is facing.

The project was based on four objectives. Below a summarize of the projects results. Report prepared by Peter Jan Kooijenga, during the project, in collaboration with IBUTTI.

1 Educating business skills (to entrepreneurial students of IFM)

This project was located at the business school of International Financial Management (IFM) in Dar es Salaam. More than 300 entrepreneurial students of the business school were given lectures according to selling techniques. It contributed to the making of business and export plans, given by Frans Somers (2013). As result the students were given knowledge on how to set up businesses without any funding, it leaded so far to 6 new business formats and export plans, where one is actually implemented.

2 Market research

The goal was here to support and realize 80% of the export plan chapters, given by Frans Somers. Unfortunate, there were no companies at IBUTTI who, at this moment, were ready to export. These companies are still struggling with setting up their organization. In this case, personal and customized guidance was a better option.

3 New export contacts IBUTTI

During the whole project period we have been looking for clients of IBUTTI, new markets and potential buyers. The purpose was to find at least five foreign trade portals throughout Europe. Until now we've succeeded to find three website import/export trade portal, were importers and exporters can subscribe their needs and network with each other.

4 Microfinances Triodos Bank

During the whole project period we have been looking for companies who could meet the demands of getting a financial loan of Triodos Bank. The purpose was to link at least one company to Triodos Bank, who meets the micro finances acquired demands. As a result we were able to link ''Nature Ripe Kilimanjaro Ltd.'' (www.natureripe.co.tz), it has a stable organization, reliable market and buyers on a contract base. With the investment the company can now increase the product quality as the quantity.
